Breastfeeding Blues

Q. What if you have a flat nipples? what can you do?

A. You're definitely not alone on this one. The good news is that women with flat nipples are not doomed to fail at breastfeeding. There are lots of strategies you can try to get baby to latch on successfully. While you're still pregnant, prepare your nipples for nursing. I just suggests rolling your nipples between your thumb and fingers each day as you finish your shower bath. Avoid applying soap directly to nipples, which will dry them out. "Gentle stimulation by your partner can also be helpful". Once your baby is born, remove your top and hold your baby, unbundled, close to you. "The really important thing for you to do is make sure that you have uninterrupted skin-to-skin contact with your baby after the birth, This allows the baby to get familiar with the territory and stimulate your breasts naturally so colostrum, early breast milk, will flow and the nipple will protrude. Lie almost flat, with pillows under your head only to allow the baby to latch while laying on your chest. Most important, dont give up. Many women have many challenges breastfeeding at the first but most do overcome them.

Take it from ME!

Pregnancy is such a tricky time for women with food issues, You're supposed to eat more - 300 extra calorie a day on average- but not too much more. You're dogged by cravings, and your nutritionally challenged mate isn't helping matters.

Here's some tips:

* Renew your vows. Not a marital one, but a new commitment to eat better for your sake and the baby's. "I would say to your partner. 'Id like it if we do this together. I want to go make an effort to eat good things,". Get him to promise that instead of pizza, he'll start bringing home salad with grilled chicken.

* Cut back. As a pregnant woman, you have an additional reason to go easy on high-fat fare. It an give you indigestion. Which is common in pregnancy. So have your pizza, but only once a month and with a fruit salad for dessert, If you like Ben and Jerry's, have a smaller serving topped with berries.

* Pare down portion. Does your guy like fries? Get one serving for both of you to split. Instead of the super-sized bacon cheeseburger, eat the smaller one with less bacon and cheese. Another trick is to buy chips and other snacks in single-serving packages.

* Let him have his cake. "He can eat what he wants at work. That's his choice,"But the pregnant woman is trying to develop good eating habits for a lifetime."

TREATING BABY'S COLD

You're probably well aware how long a cold can linger in an adult body--a week or so. But did you know that when it comes to your newborn, the virus stays for 10 to 14 days? that makes it all the more important to treat your baby's symptoms properly. First don't give children under 2 yrs. old any over-the-counter cold medications without consulting a doctor, says the centers for Disease Control and Prevention ( CDC). Adult medicine, especially, is not for babies and it will cause of overdose. even medications made for baby are "not very effective, or in some cases, not effective, or in some cases, not effective at all" in relieving cold symptoms. Instead, keep baby hydrated. Continue to breastfeed or use formula, because proper nutrients are essential "Small, frequent feeds are the way to go. To unblock baby's nose and facilitate feeding, use SALINE nose drops bulb syringe or an electric nose cleaner cleaner like CLEANOZ ( ubimed.com ). Humidifiers in the nursery can help thin mucus, so baby will breathe better. Stop using the humidifier one the virus is gone, so you don't encourage mold growth.

With Geico, It's easy to Save!

People say to me, I already have car insurance. And i ask them, have you heard GEICO lowered rates in California? Go to geico.com. Answer some quick questions and you get an accurate rate quote. You can then buy online or over the phone. Do what make you feel comfortable and you could save 15% or more.

People know they could save hundreds. But what about Geico's service? I tell people, Geico isn't just about saving hundreds. There's also the 24/7 service with real live people. They're on the phones at all hours answering you questions. And you can always get the help you need at geico.com. Geico is about Value. And that means savings and service.

A friend gets into a small accident. Everyone is OK. When he gets home he goes to geico.com, reports the claim and schedules an appointment later he goes back to the website, prints out his estimate and views photos of the damage. He then goes to a GEICO-approved shop and his claim repairs are guaranteed for as long as he own his car. Now that's what i call service.
